Reasons for Having a Small Business Plan!

October 30, 2009

A business plan will help aspiring entrepreneurs and startups. While others may consider it as part of their usual task, it is crucial to understand that business planning in every small business can determine its fdirection, strong points and success.

Maybe, you are one lucky man whose business continually grows and thrives. Or maybe, you are into mending debt problems and getting new investments as part of your plan. Either way, a plan has to be formed not only for these purposes, but for future uses and potential accounts. Therefore, as a small business owner, you have to make sure that you are treading on clear waters with a survival kit at hand.

Below are some of the reasons why a small business needs its own business plan:

  1. Vision and long-term goals. Any venture that is expected to bring profits has to be built with a solid foundation called a business plan. For one, you have to develop a list of strategies that could make your business a potential and strong force, amidst present competition and standards.
  2. Management. A business owner has to be accountable for any potential losses that concern his business enterprise. His leadership skills will be tested each time an undelivered service or a low quality product passes under his watch. There has to be delegation and system in terms of supposed responsibilities and completed tasks. Transactions must be checked thoroughly so as to avoid misdemeanor or poor standards.
  3. Stability in money and finance. For one thing, if there is one aspect of a small business that has to be safeguarded, that would be the cash-flow department. Planning will not only help you in determining your initial investment, but will guide you in defining operating costs and overhead. More so, any big or small changes on cash flow will be determined and its clear effect on operations and sales can be immediately defined, revised or maintained.

Build a Marketing Foundation

As a business consultant I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of business owners over the past 25 years in helping them maximize their potential.

For the past few years marketing and getting new business has been their greatest concern due to the economy. Many of them spend most of their time and energy chasing new business using the internet, SEO and getting on First Page of Google.

The first thing that any business should do is to find their sweet spot. What sets you apart from your competition? Why should someone pick you over your competitors? With this identified you are ready to build a strong marketing foundation.

I am a firm beleiver in using the internet as a marketing tool. I also recognize that the best new business available to most businesses is their past and current clients. These are people who know you and trust you so they're ready to do business with you. By working with them and making sure they're happy you can get referrals and a steady flow of new business.

What you need is a 3 legged Marketing Foundation that takes advantage of all that is available to you. If you'd like more information, click on the tab that says Marketing Foundation.
