Marketing today is more important than ever before. Many of my clients have admitted that they never had to market before and don’t know how to go about it. Many business owners admit that they don’t know how to market and hate the idea of having to do so.
One of my clients owns a construction firm in California. For about two years now I have been encouraging him to get out and meet at least one business owner each week that he doesn’t currently do business with. His market is large general contractors that need construction of under ground fuel tanks. The problem is that he doesn’t know where to start with this type of marketing.
The problem was that my client needed to cold call general contractors that he doesn’t do business with. He had a big problem with cold calling so we had to solve that for him. We were able to solve that problem by hiring someone else to do the calling to set up the meetings.
Other important methods to market a small business are to establish a functional website. It means having a website that is more than a pretty picture. It has to be functional by having a call to action. That means asking your visitors to do something. You can ask them to sign up for a FREE Newsletter or report of some kind. Look at your market and determine what you could offer of value. When they sign up you can capture their name and e mail so you can market to them from time to time.
